OPEN DAY AT AFM'S LUQA BARRACKS
An Open Day will be held by the Armed Foces of Malta, at Luqa Barracks
next Sunday 2nd October, 2011, with doors opening at 10.00 am.
Ahead of this annual AFM day, a Solemn Mass of thanksgiving will be held
on Friday 30th September at St. John's Co Cathedral in Valletta at 10.00
am. The President of Malta will inspect a Guard of Honour prior to the
Mass. The Prime Minister and Commander AFM will be attending the Solemn
Mass together with other distinguished dignitaries. Members of the
general public are also invited to attend.
The all-day family event on Sunday 2nd October is where the AFM will
showcase varied skills and work performed by various units of the Maltese
Armed Forces. Different AFM Units will treat the public with dynamic
displays on the main parade ground, and provide other features such as
aerial ropeways and helicopter demonstrations. The newly acquired AFM Air
Wing's Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) $B!F (JKing Air $B!G (J will also perform a special flypast.
The Maritime Squadron $B!G (Js Rapid Deployment Team (RDT) will perform
abseiling and arresting techniques, as well as unarmed combat. A weapons
stand, vessel scale models and other assets and capabilities will also be
on display, accompanied by detailed explanations from personnel. Other
demonstrations will also be performed by 1 Regiment's $B!F (JC $B!G (J
(Special Duties) Company, and the AFM Band will give a number of
performances and displays.
Static display stands, assets and capabilities will be setup around the
barracks, and personnel will be available to provide detailed explanations
to the attending public.
Refreshments and warm meals, together with a children $B!G (Js play area,
will be available throughout the day to make it an ideal family day outing.
The programme for the day (vide enclosed JPEG) will be capped off with a
Changing of the Guard ceremony, and Beating the Retreat by the AFM Band at
6.00 p.m.
